As of Friday, 1st of September 2006 there will be a STRICT enforcement of the 1 account per household rule.
A new script has been written which will automatically disconnect ANY account which tries to connect to an IP that is being, or has been, used by another account.
The screen below will popup, blocking access, and the instructions MUST be followed to have the accounts reenabled.
This will occur if a new account is being created on the same IP you have ( for example ... some people make extra accounts days apart because they are on dial-up and the IP is different ... THIS WILL STILL CATCH YOU ! ).
It will also trigger the disconnection if a friend with an existing account logs into the shard from your house, or if you log into the shard from a friends house who also plays here.
WARNING - Once you try to connect to the shard from another location, and that location already has an account, the IP will be recorded for BOTH accounts, and therefore, BOTH accounts will be blocked until the administrators allow connection.
So, as an example.
Player One has an account, and logs on at Player Two's house.
Player One's list of accessed IP addresses will include the IP address of Player Two... Player one is disconnected for being on Player Two's recorded IP address.
Player Two then attempts to connect from their house, and the system recognizes the IP address was also used by Player One which makes the server think it's the same person using 2 IP's, or having 2 different accounts, and disconnects Player Two.
BOTH ACCOUNTS WILL BE BLOCKED until the Administrators unblock the accounts.
BE SURE TO GET PERMISSION FROM AN ADMINISTRATOR TO SHARE CONNECTIONS BEFORE DOING SO.
There will be a gump which pops up on the screen informing you that the IP is logged to another account, and that you need to contact the administrators to have a 2nd account created. Be sure to include the existing account name, and the account name and password you require for the new one, as well as the reason you need another account.
This may seem a little strict, and it may be, but the amount of ILLEGAL accounts, especially by dynamic IP's, such as dial-up users, has gotten WAY out of hand lately and we are getting a bit sick of cleaning up after them.
So what happens if we are already sharing ?
Well, for the last 5 or 6 hours, Roc'C and I have been going through the accounts and marking the accounts we know about being shared, to make sure the server will not disconnect them when the system is introduced on Friday.
There will be a plaque placed on the wall in the lounge for you to double click, which will check if your account has been marked as allowed to share.
If your account says not marked, and you are sharing an IP you MUST let us know as soon as possible or you may be disconnected on Friday.
