For those of you that are unaware:
The Shard at this present moment is experiencing some lag spikes here and there, which would indicate either the shard is updating windows OR is experiencing some atmospheric (weather) interference. Kev has been notified of this and hopefully can shed more light on this when he wakes. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

For whatever reason, which I probably will not figure out, the shard's IP didn't auto-update itself, and so when it changed, you all got super lag and then booted one by one until you were all gone.
If anyone here has used No-IP's services before and knows how to make it so that it automatically updates without issue, please let me know, you'll save the shard a lot of trouble and I'll even reward you in game somehow.

If an IP address changes, the TCP connection between player and shard cannot "migrate" on the fly to the new server address, people have to reconnect. Or what did you mean?

If an IP address changes, the TCP connection between player and shard cannot "migrate" on the fly to the new server address, people have to reconnect. Or what did you mean? i think i agree with sih's comment.... if the host machine gets a new ip adress, online players will get booted and wont be able to reconnect until no-ip has updated itself to reflect the new ip adress i am using no-ip DUC v2.2.1 software (a control panel). using the "options" button on the main panel will bring up a gump with tabs for "standard, connection, scheduling/autodial and other". on the "connection" tab, down at the bottom, there is a slider bar for the time between ip update checks. mine is set for 30 mins. you might check your settings to make sure its not set to update every 720 minutes (the max) no other options are checked in the other tabs, other than "use smooth scrolling on status window" i have a "test" server and use no-ip so i dont have to manually change the ip adresss in the appropriate script, then recompile. ive had very few problems with no-ip; the exception being a couple of times no-ip had some trouble updating my ip.... all resolved themselves within 30 minutes (see slider bar comment above) also, from time to time ive had to go to the no-ip website and update my info (so no-ip can try to sell me "upgrades") to continue using their service hope this helps henry

hi...
add to the above post:
when you open the control panel (on mine), there is a box listing the hosts to be updated (server name)
make sure the box next to the server name is checked this starts the auto update process
if the box isnt checked, the new ip adress wont be applied
at least that's how i understand it

Thanks for the help Henry, I've moved it back to 20 minutes, and left the box checked. Hopefully that will solve the issues from now on.
