I was browsing the depths of Felucca's Covetous, engaged Barracoon quite on accident as I was slaying dragons, and found that when killed by Barracoon, the rat transformation takes place during death, which causes the client to think that you're still alive - which means the screen is color (but very dark) and you can't push through creatures since you have 0 stamina.
Surrounded by, oh, a hundred trillion ratmen, waiting for them to disperse to walk to a safe place to rez is really quite frustrating and time consuming. There's no other option, given that the help menu does not have an emergency transport button and you can't use a travel book in death.
The way I see it, there's a delay between the time Barracoon hits you and the rat transformation. If Barracoon lands the killing blow, or close to it, you become a rat after dying, which fouls up your life and death mechanics.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the problem. The only way I see to fix it is to add some kind of inquiry just before the transformation completes to make sure you're alive, but even that might not work, as I'm sure that inquiry already exists.
Um... another idea might be to make some kind of debug for death, wherein every so often the shard makes sure you're dead and makes sure your bodyid is correct and so on, but I don't know if that would work because it could just be the client that's confused, not the shard. I suppose the only way to see if it's the client or the shard is to have someone watch this happen and for the dead rat person to go war mode after dying so they can see if you're a rat or a ghost.
