The Elf watched as the old dwarf slowly walked through the woods near the Elf's home. The elf was responsible for putting an arrow in anything that entered this glade, in fact, the elf had his magical bow pulled and his arrow notched prepared to do just that. The elf was a marksman of much renown among the elves of these woods. He was sure he could take the unsuspecting dwarf with just one arrow from his perch in the tall elm tree.
The elf warrior pulled the arrow back tightly to his cheek and brought the arrow in line with the old dwarf's chest. Breathing slow and steady the elf followed the the dwarf's slow gait easily. The elf held his breath for a split second as he prepared to loose his arrow, when the dwarf looked up and to the right. The old dwarf's eyes met those of the young protector. The brief time their eyes met seemed an eternity to the young elf.
The elf slowly lowered his bow as he stared at the old dwarf who just looked back down to the path and continued walking seeming unconcerned with the elf or his own death. The elf watched as the old dwarf passed under the elm and slowly continued further away.
A quiet whistle brought the elf's attention to Jarvis, another elven protector just one hundred yards away and high into another tree. The elves looked at each other for a moment the elven warrior slowly shook his head. Jarvis lowered his own bow in amazement and watched as the old dwarf passed out into a small clearing and then further into the woods beyond where the elves protect.
